Aspire is a community organisation that supports people with intellectual disabilities to live as independently as possible. Aspire’s services include residential and support living, 24/7 staff support and assistance to enable people to live life to the fullest.
In 2014, Aspire was looking for a new fleet of vehicles. As a not-for-profit charity, money is tight but these vehicles are essential for transporting people around the community.
Simone Molenaar, chief executive, Aspire, explains what they were looking for in their new fleet. “We wanted a step up in safety and accessibility for staff driving vehicles, with smarter features that enabled better road safety,” she says. “Given that we support people with various abilities it was also important that the vehicles were easy for people to get in and out of and that they sit comfortably with enough room to meet their needs.
“We also wanted to support a Waikato business as part of our commitment to local sustainability.”
With these elements in mind, the Ebbett Volkswagen team sat down with Aspire to look through options and analyse the best vehicle for their needs. “We compared every manufacturer that might have been suitable to find out how much we could actually save them,” explains Richard van den Engel, dealer principal, Ebbett Volkswagen.
Volkswagen offers unique products that perfectly suited Aspire’s needs, such as the Caddy Kombi, a practical people mover.
“Volkswagen are extremely good for fuel economy, and with long service intervals they’re a business’s dream vehicle,” Richard says. “Through our analyses of the different vehicles that would suit the Trust’s needs, we were able to show that by adding up the lease and fuel savings, a fleet of Volkswagen would make a substantial difference to the organisation’s bottom line and have the added bonus of European quality as well.”
The Volkswagens also had further drawcards for Aspire. “The specs were much higher than the fleet we were currently using and we wanted one that was more environmentally friendly,” says Simone.
“We have found the entire experience fantastic,” she continues. “Adam Johnson is awesome to deal with and he made the process so easy. Adam did all of the liaising with Fleetpartners and all of the paperwork for us which made the process stress free. He pulled together a really good presentation and it was easy for me to on sell that to the Board of Trustees.”
Ebbett Volkswagen are now looking forward to a long term future with Aspire. “The Ebbett way is to understand a client’s business and needs first before matching a product, rather than simply quoting a price. This means the right vehicle solutions are provided every time. In the case of Aspire, this approach lead to a total fleet package that was some 25% less than that provided by their previous supplier.
